Play

Nature Collection

Spending time in nature with your child is good for everyone’s soul. This activity works matter how big or small your space.

All play is an opportunity for parent-child quality time, building healthy parent-child relationships and practicing positive parenting tips and effective parenting strategies.

Resources

Cut pieces of sellotape that will go around your wrist and your child’s wrist, the sticky part faces up.

Go on a walk with your child or out into a field or a garden, as you walk, collect little pieces of grass, flowers , weeds, small pieces of twigs and stick them on the sellotape bracelet on your wrist. It might be a good idea to bring a bag with you to collect some pieces that won’t fit on the bracelet!

This activity engages children as they walk and notice the nature around them.

It is also a great opportunity to discuss colours, textures, insects, smells and how we take care of nature. If there are  items in the bag, let the child decide what they want to do with them and what’s the best way of storing them or disposing of them. There may be an opportunity here to tell them about composting and how to take care of plants.

Further play

The bracelet can be stuck onto a piece of paper or into a scrapbook as a reminder of the time you spent with them.
