Self Care for parents

Parenting is all about parents , looking at this from different perspectives will help raise awareness for our own capacity to stay regulated in any parenting moment.

Our top tip for parents and teachers – look after yourself first, only then can you take care of others. Deeply listen to what your body is telling you.

We live in a crazy world of high expectations for ourselves and those around us. Parent / teacher / carer self care is like laying down the foundation blocks for all the family. Unconditional love and support for yourself so that you can give that gift to others.

Remember there will always be survival mode moments, accepting that makes it less difficult when those moments happen.

When you bring mindful parenting / mindful teaching to yourself and connect to the present moment first, then to ourselves only then can we connect to others. So what do you need as a parent or teacher to help you connect to the present and yourself? Notice how you are relating to how you are…can you soften that towards yourself?

If you are okay, then your family  / classroom can be okay too.

It might be an idea to look at your demands v’s resources. Do your demands outweigh your resources. Can you create a better balance by reducing your demands and increasing your resources? What this looks like in practice will differ for everyone and might take some time getting used to. Change happens one person at a time.

Demands Resources

Can you meet yourself in your body and mind with no judgement, it is ok to be just as I am? Can I let go of some of these demands that I have put on myself?  What demands are inhibiting me from being ok just as I am? Is there anything I can shed?

Our article on mindfulness might be helpful for you to look at where in your life can you add in moments for yourself.
